I think I have fixed the problem. Let me know here if the website ever goes down again.

The site is currently down on my end. In Firefox it's a blank page while Chrome and IE display their standard error messages.

When the site goes down, check both the site and forum. Let me know the status of both.

I think the problem stems from the database abstraction layer we use. We don't need to use it, but I don't have the time to change the code yet. I upgraded it to a later version and it seemed to fix the problem, but I guess the fix was only temporary.

As far as I know, the forums are always (or almost always) up and I've never seen them go down. The rest of the site goes down occassionally, including many pages linked from the forums such as forum FAQ's and even rules (since those pages are part of the rest of the site and not in the forums). However, I don't check on the status of the rest of the site as often since I usually only access the forums. (I keep my tabs saved everytime I exit the browser.)

I think it's just the homepage, the forums are still accessible as far as I know.

Edit: Now the homepage is up again. I guess they must have fixed it.
Edit #2: Uh-oh. The homepage is down again. The forums still work though.

Yup, down for me as well.. Seems like Ben is aware of the problem, but no definitive solution yet.

I was wrong about the number of connections. That's the number of connections for the entire server. I was told that the the number shown is not unusual and I checked the connections presently made. There was only one; the query I made to check the number of connections.

I'm going to recode the backend this weekend to get around this problem.

I have only a vague idea of what is causing the problem. It seems to be related to the database abstraction layer that we are using. The only reason we use this is because Neo (back 6 years ago or so) started writing some blog software that I adapted into the current backend. For my personal website, I use a similar system that was rewritten from scratch and uses MySQL directly. My personal website does not have this problem, so I figure this will fix the problem.

It was fixed for a while, but now it seems to be down again.

Edit: It appears to be fixed now. Hope it stays that way.

Why don't people just access the forums directly? It's much faster and you don't have to click the forum link.

Of course, it becomes a problem when linking and accessing SSC articles/material but it's not like you need it to access the forum itself.

That's what I do whenever this happens. I just like to look in the homemade section a lot, so it gets kind of annoying if I need to look something up.

I just use a session manager so all my tabs are loaded up whenever I run Firefox so I don't even have to get to the link. But when I do, I always start with fo... in the address bar and the first option scrolling down is to SSC's forums. Of course, if anyone uses bookmarks for this purpose, it's a good idea to bookmark the forums unless you access the rest of the site more often.

At the moment, both the SSC Forums and Website are inaccessible to me. Anyone else?

SSC is working for me at the time of this posting. Looks to be another short bit of downtime.
