Just a note of thanks

Postby isoaker on Mon Aug 31, 2009 9:04 am

Tomorrow, iSoaker.net shall be scaled back. The reasons are explained in more detail in this thread. iSoaker.net will not be disappearing, but its set-up will be altered and the remaining forums will become much more closely-knit to iSoaker.com content developments.

That said, I just wanted to thank the past and present membership for making the iSoaker.com Forums/iSoaker.net a great and fun place to interact! While tomorrow begins a new chapter for iSoaker.net, I definitely feel that the past years have been great and am looking forward to what the future shall bring!

This is NOT a farewell (I ain't disappearing so easily :goofy:), but a salute to the past in preparation for an even better future!

Soak on!

More like thank YOU for maintaining and promoting these boards! They were the first ones I found and I grew as a member and a water warrior here. They're of sentimental value to me :goofy: .

This seems rather soon as WWc isn't quite setup and got spam attacked again. Looks like we'll be staying at SSC in the meantime.

Yeah, it's soon, but such is life. I don't mind if the bulk of activity ends up at SSC while WWc sorts itself out. If/when WWc is ready, it may then be used, but my choice to scale back iSn now is simply from my own lack of time these days. Scaling back here would only be too soon had there been no viable alternative available, but SSC is a perfect option for now while WWc rebuilds.

Thank you for everything you have done for Isoaker.com and Isoaker.net. I know I haven't acually been on these forums for very long but after looking at the history of online soaker websites and significant events which occured, I have seen that you have done so much for not only Isoaker.com and .net but also other websites. Also, it's the same for me as it was for Steelboot, these were the first boards I joined which really got me into water wars.
Thankyou again.

Well, with that said, here goes.

iSoaker was the new member's first forum for many of us, including me. I started off here back in 2006 and joined SSC months later. Sharing water warfare here has been great, and filled with lots of insightful discussion. I know that SSC and maybe later, WWc, will be able to continue such discussion, but iSc/iSn will always be the place where I started. Thanks for the boards, the discussion, the articles, and the 2008 Orca.

With a slight shift in what I'm doing in my free time, as well as the coming of college, I may be breaking back again for a bit, as I have in the past. My attempts to escalate water warfare this year was met with limited success, and the season is basically shut down for me now. Maybe I'll get more reasonable chances to improve next year; maybe I'll be able to get a college group to water warfare, who knows. I just hope not to have to deal with the same old crap that comes on when water wars go wrong. Even when you think you've learned how to avoid a bad war, problems find their way around that and creep back up, and you find yourself dealing with the same problems in a war 2 years ago.

This was my first forum as well, I've been here since last summer and really like the environment, The community was small but there was virtually any arguing during my time here except for the Teh Moron incident. I really hate to see it go but its your choice.

I'm sad to see iSoaker.net change from a hub, but I'm excited about the future (even if I won't be there in the immediate part of it).

We're ready at SSC to take on some more members. If WWc ever does get to the point where it can run on its own we'll likely close up shop similarly to here.

For those interested, WWc has been cleaned up substantially. It took a few hours, but there should be no trace of spam or spammers left. If there is, let Vincent (who's Adrian here) know. I've changed the settings a bit such that future spammings should be prevented, so this hopefully will not be necessary. We'll know in a few days...

First big change since I've been here. I was always comfortable at SSC but it's still strange to see iSoaker.com/iSoaker.net go. Anyway, thanks, and enjoy this Real Life™ thing. ;)

* just a little note to clarify... while this "Thanks" thread has a little sub-tone of going away, iSoaker.net isn't going or closing, just converting away from a general hub. Then again, it'll be all clearer tomorrow.

Thanks for the various kind thoughts and kudos above!

I see you've just made the changes. Doesn't look bad. It actually looks pretty cool. Just for clarification, users can still start topics on non-archived forums, correct?

Actually, not all the changes have been made yet. More to come in the morning...

As for starting topics, some forums will allow, but most won't allow members to start new threads. However, most threads will be open to replies from members.

Oh, there's more? True, true, I realize the "soaker imagine" icon hasn't been placed next to any forum. More to come in the morning, I guess. On a sidenote the program you linked me to is 60mb so I might not install it. My PC is ancient and only has 40GB of hard drive space. Got it in 2001 when all PC's were like $3000.

I saw the spam and banned a few users and IP's. However, seeing how much there was, and how many users there were, I simply gave up, as DX said that the old forums were getting ditched or something. (I'm not exactly sure what his intention was, I just asked him on Facebook chat)

Well, the community keeps changing and evolving. You've been a pillar in the community for almost as long as I can remember, and even with scaling iSn back I don't see that changing. Thanks!
