Internal Pics: Super Soaker Quick Blast

Postby isoaker on Fri Jun 13, 2008 6:26 am

This is the first of a new series of internal pics coming soon to iSoaker.com.

Opening up the Super Soaker Quick Blast, I was curious about how the pressure-based valve worked. I was guessing that it worked similarly to how the Hydro Blitz's valve system worked, but wanted to be sure. After opening things up, the mechanism became rather clear.

The Super Soaker Quick Blast actually has a pressure chamber! The pressure chamber, itself, is actually spring-based. Due to how the PC is closed, I opted not to force it open for fear of not being able to put it back securely together again. However, the spring is visible through the small holes on the rear side of the PC.

As the PC fills, its plunger extends out the backside, pulling on the Max-D-style valve set-up. When the plunger extends far enough, the spring-loaded bar suddenly snaps back, pushing on the nozzle-valve pin to open up the nozzle valve and allow the PC to force water out the nozzle.

Neat stuff! More pics to come soon. Soak on!

=p You forgot to link to the high-res version : http://www.isoaker.com/Armoury/Analysis ... rnal02.jpg

Hmm... Is the PC actually half-decently powerful? It seems like it would by the larger nozzle and plus, this is their first time using a pull valve on a new gun in quite a while.

Design seems to be somewhat like the steady stream...

@C-A_99: you found the link early! :goofy: Not that it's hard to figure out.

At any rate, the full series of pics are now up.

As for the power of the PC, it's ok, neither hugely powerful nor pathetic. The Quick Blast can push out a fairly solid 1x stream, but due to its short shot time, it's basically impossible to do any accurate output measurements with my measuring set-up. The PC's size, though, would be its main limiting factor; it can only hold ~22-25mL (0.6-0.7oz). I think even if one separates out the automatic nozzle activation mechanisms, I don't think it would be able to hold much more compressed water.

The hybrid Max-D+pin valve mechanism was a surprise, though.
