What's Best to Get? Available 2008 Water Gun Summary

Postby isoaker on Mon Jun 02, 2008 9:13 am

For those newer to water wars and soaking, here's a quick summary of many of the currently available stock water guns for 2008. All thoughts based on personal experience with the blasters noted.

--------------------------------

Hasbro Inc.
Super Soaker Aquashock Arctic Blast - CPS-based; decent power and capacity; "Flash Flood"-type nozzle; Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Aquashock Hydroblitz - CPS-based; decent power and capacity; "Flash Flood-bursting"-type nozzle; Max-Infusion compatible; somewhat awkward to pump and hold; front-heavy
Super Soaker Aquashock Secret Strike - air-pressure with separate pressure chamber; multiple nozzle selector; slightly lower power if not primed well; Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Aquashock Sneak Attack - piston-pressure; mutiple nozzle selector; power ok, but depends on user strength; Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Max-Infusion Defender - air-pressure with separate pressure chamber; multiple nozzle selector; slightly lower power if not primed well; Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Max-Infusion Helix - piston-pressure; variable-width nozzle adjustor; good area coverage, but range sacrificed; power ok, but depends on user strength; Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Max-D 2000 - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; easy to conceal; decent power for its size
Super Soaker Max-D 3000 - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; decent power for its size
Super Soaker Max-D 4000 - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; decent power for its size; slightly front-heavy due to design
Super Soaker Max-D 5000 - air-based pressurized reservoir; decent power for its size; requires a little more pumping to pressurize
Super Soaker Max-D 6000 - air-pressure with separate pressure chamber; multiple nozzle selector; respectable power on larger nozzle settings
Super Soaker Liquidator - air-based pressurized reservoir; decent power for its size
Super Soaker Oozinator - air-based pressurized reservoir; low power for its size; questionable utility of secondary "Bio-Ooze" nozzle
Super Soaker Quick Blast - piston-pressure; nozzle valve requires adequate pressure to be achieved before firing (i.e. minimum stream power); not Max-Infusion compatible
Super Soaker Bottle Shot - piston-pressure; can use various common bottles instead of the reservoir is comes with; rear-heavy when filled

Buzz Bee Toys Inc.
Water Warriors Tarantula - motorized; rechargeable battery; solid stream; decent power for its size; cannot be angled too much when firing with a lower fill level due to placement of intake opening
Water Warriors Aqua-Master Argon - air-pressure; separate compressed air/water compartments in firing chamber; good power for its size
Water Warriors Aqua-Master Xenon - air-pressure; separate compressed air/water compartments in firing chamber; multiple nozzle selector; good power for its size
Water Warriors Aqua-Master Krypton - air-pressure; separate compressed air/water compartments in firing chamber; decent power for its size; slightly top-heavy when full, but has strap
Water Warriors Splat Blaster - spring-based single-shot blaster; low range, but area blast; good number of shots per fill; has strap
Water Warriors Tiger Shark - Hydro-Power diaphragm system; decent power for its size, multiple nozzle selector; solid performance
Water Warriors Orca - Hydro-Power diaphragm system; decent power for its size, multiple nozzle selector; largest nozzle feels slightly underpowered; overall good performance
Water Warriors Hydra Pak - Hydro-Power CPS system; decent power for its size, multiple nozzle selector; largest nozzle underpowered; overall good performance
Water Warriors Stingray - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; decent power for its size
Water Warriors Barracuda - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; decent power for its size
Water Warriors Hammerhead - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; slightly low power for its size; handle feels too flexible
Water Warriors Chameleon - air-based pressurized reservoir; pistol-class; decent power for its size; comes with two additional reservoir bottles/caps/belt clips
Water Warriors Steady Stream - piston-based with power capacitor; allows for a continuous stream to be produced from a piston-based soaker; good stream performance, but depends on user to some degree
Water Warriors Avenger - piston-based; multiple nozzle selectors; power ok, but depends on user strength
Water Warriors Cross-Fire - piston-pressure; rotating or stationary nozzle settings; good area coverage, but range sacrificed; power ok, but depends on user strength
Water Warriors Gremlin - piston-based; power ok, but depends on user strength
Water Warriors Shark - piston-based; power ok, but depends on user strength; appears to be the update 2008 version of the older Gremlin

Nice list, but don't forget the Max-D 2000! :)

HydroBlitz, Liquidator, Defender, and Helix seem to be no longer available in my local stores. I haven't even seen a Liquidator before, which I was interested in when I was looking for pistols earlier.

Well either way, this is a good reference for the new members as opposed to just suggesting them the Orca, Arctic Blast, and/or Flash Flood as we always do. =p
Teams, Armory, Local Water Warfare, etc. HydroBrawl Water Warfare.

I saw a new Helix too at the same store. Irronically, it was both the last one left, and it had no UPC code or box. Because of that, they gave it to me at the clearance price: $5.90. Great price for it, and it brings my Helix count to four. :)

Because of the Max-D 2000's on sale, I brought my total count of those from three to six. :D

This summary listing is now so last-year. :goofy:

Eventually, a new summary listing will be created for 2009 once we have more info and experience with the water blasters available for 2009.

Thread now closed.
