iSoaker.net Updates

Postby isoaker on Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:03 am

Been working on a couple of things including installing an anti-bot question and trying to get a Quick-Reply function working on the board. There is now a "Quick Reply" button, but it still refuses to display its graphic properly and, oddly, only appears at the base of the page and not on the top of the page as well of a topic. Will hopefully figure out the problem and fix it one of these days.

In the meantime, I also hope to convert more of the existing smileys to the ones from the Ikonboard since that smiley set just looks better, IMO.

Speaking of the smilies, I'm not sure if we should keep the banana, because it belongs to another site and I didn't know that there was a problem with taking it without permission.
That was a long sentence.
:soakerbanana: This is what I'm talking about for those who don't know.

The quick reply button displays properly, although it doesn't show graphics and the like. I like the addition.

These smilies are too synthetic and they don't convey emotion at all. I like the default vB ones and the iSoaker.com ones more.

Will "kill" the banana I suppose. Hopefully I can get around to updating the rest of the smileys on the weekend. Thanks for all the feedback! I suppose the biggest shortcoming with these new boards is the pain it is to "skin" the place. Oh well, bit by bit, but at least the forums are running happily.

The quick reply's been working fine for me.

On an aside, I'm just gonna mention that iSoaker.net is a tad more convenient to go to in general. Rather than going to isoaker.com and linking to it. It was a good idea.

It might be easier to skin this place than you think. I thought skinning SSC would be a long process, but it wasn't that hard because most things were labeled. I'm rather happy with the results. What sped up the process was taking a look at some the CSS and HTML of some forums that I liked to get an idea of what to edit. After that, it was a matter of changing graphics and editing the header and footer templates to. Making the header and footer look acceptable with a load of CSS foreign to it was difficult, but now the difference between the website header and the forum header is unnoticeable unless I pointed it out.

Right now the skin is okay, but the main problem (in my opinion) with the new default phpBB skin is the lack of contrast. It seems washed out to me.

Working on updating smileys; will eventually tweak the board skin more to make it more distinct for this set of forums, but there's no rush on that one. With the coming of the new soaker season and hopefully getting access to new stock soakers in the coming weeks/months, I'll be spending more time hopefully doing fun things like writing up reviews, taking pics, and testing and field testing soakers.

Soak on!

Soaker Armoury and Additional Info fields added into members' personal profiles. Feel free to add in any additional information about your water warfare interested into your profile fields. If anyone has other ideas or suggestions for additional fields that might be good to have in members' profiles, let me know.

Soak on!
