The Aqua Flash Super Soaker Contest - >Suggestions

General news, announcements, and other posts from and/or related to other water warfare-related news and websites.

Postby Aqua_Flash on Tue Aug 21, 2007 10:24 am

After some thought and asking for permission from iSoaker, I thought it would be good to hold a soaker contest on behalf of Aqua Flash, where you will win a unique prize (a soaker, obviously :goofy: ).

To get a better idea, as again I've said to iSoaker, I want your opinions on what would be a good contest to hold that suits people most, ie. picture contest .etc.

Once I have a good number of contribution and interest, I'll get around to organising the contest here and on Aqua Flash soon hopefully. The prize shall be unveiled soon, need to take pictures, however don't be alarmed, the prize will be worth your time.

So, get posting ideas, more people entering is always better, I don't want a contest that has very few people entering hopefully.

Contests are great things! I've been thinking, but never managed to run a contest this year here, so I'm happy someone else is willing to!

As for type of contest, I recommend short reviews, soaker pics/soaker art, or a short battle report (real or fictional)

Yeah my choice would be short reviews or soaker pics/art, however again more opinions = better.

Ok, the prize is now finised and ready to be shown, so without further ado, here it is.

Yep, that's right, a like new condition painted CPS 2100 Mark 2 with box. It has a bit of leakage commonly suffered by Mark 2's, but works very nicely and hasn't been used much from new. Also please not that the red paint with the pump being tracked will wear off around that area with use.

I'll again expand more when there is enough interest and ideas in which I can fully go through the contest and all the terms and rules in a new thread.

Regarding the prize: Nice! If I may suggest/recommend, to make it really unique, you should add on the Aqua Flash logo and/or sign the soaker somewhere as well as date it. You never know if that would make it worth just that much more in the future!

@Aqua_Flash: This does definitely sound quite fun. I cannot wait to hear the rules and such, as well as... well, everything currently unsaid.
@iSoaker: Interesting idea, sounds like a good one.

Can't wait to make my entry~!~
(Although I don't know what it would be yet, as the bulk of the information on which that decision would be made, is still not yet... available).

As an aside to Aqua_Flash, your soaker is en route and should arrive soon, if not already. Would you believe 42.00 USD to ship? Eek. Enjoy!

Ehh... Sorry to create another post, however the idea of this one is definitely drastically different than the other;

As an idea for the nature of the contest, howabout 'Best Armo[u]ry Photo'?

Sounds like a good idea to me! :goofy:

@cobralex297: "Best Armo(u)ry Photo"? Sounds like you're vying for a win in that sort of category. I've seen your slick armoury pics. :goofy:

:-D
I included the 'u' because Aqua_Flash is UK-Based, I'm sure you're aware of that, however I mentioned my justification because I don't usually utilize grammatical gimmicks inthe way that some others do.

I'd love a win of course, but I did want to make it clear that I was not genuinely attempting to set myself up by using ' :goofy: ' face. Just to mention that... :-P

Thank you for the compliment though, very much. It means a lot coming from you especially, iSoaker, because ... well, from a collector's standpoint, you outrank me many times.

Though if I did have a collection as big as yours, I would definitely need to get a bigger wall...
maybe eventually... :-D

Don't need the explain the "u"... I'm Canadian afterall. :goofy:

As for the pic contest idea, it's a cool idea, but in the end, it depends on what Aqua_Flash eventually decides upon. I'm definitely appreciative of anyone who is willing to help share the joys of soaking.

I'm definitely interested in the contest. Soaker pics/soaker art sounds good to me. Super Soaker related videos/ animation clips would be nice too.

Ah. Agreed, iSoaker.
I would most likely respond to JLspacemarine, however for some reason I cannot get his posts. They do not appear on my screen.

I feel slightly inspired by this contest, although I do not have a site on which I can really base a contest, as Aqua_Flash does, I think I could start a thread on here sometime to do some sort of prize-giveaway thing, I am definitely trying to downsize parts of my collection, and if I were to do it here, the soakers would go into better hands. I think.

Well, I cannot wait to see how this goes, it should be a hoot!

Edit: Ah... I somehow had JLspacemarine on ignore... well, I can now see his posts.

@JLspacemarine: video/animation contests would be sweet, too! However, based on the past and even current posting habits, I don't think decent video/animation capabilities are commonplace yet (though definitely more people are having access to video/animation now than before). It's already been tricky for getting enough image submissions in previous contests here; the number of entries for writing-based contests are usually ok as long as what is being written doesn't need to be too long. :goofy:

@cobralex297: if you ever feel like running a contest and don't mind running it through here, we could work out something. Of course, if you feel up for setting up your own site eventually and running one off of that, that'd be cool, too.

I took your advice about the prize iSoaker, before you raised the point I was wondering whether to sign it, and now you've said it would be good I've done just that.

The completed prize signed/autographed by me with Aqua Flash logo.

I'll give it another day or two until I make my mind up on what type of contest to hold. While the videos one is a good idea like iSoaker pointed not everyone has access to it and I just don't feel comfortable with it.

An armoury picture contest is interesting but again I have issues with that, as because some people's armouries are bigger than others and whatnot, it wouldn't be the most fairest contest I feel.

Personally, I'm leaning towards the soaker review or soaker pics/soaker art contest, as that sounds simple and interesting to me.

However, I have thought of my own possible idea depending on how well it goes down here, my idea is this.

Show your own realistic dream Super Soaker that is capable of being made to be put on shelves. Some people may have access to programs that can create in 3D and whatnot, some may not, you could even use paint or just draw it yourself on paper and photograph it. Label its parts and describe its features with a catchy ad. I think it sounds ok, but how would you feel about it? All depends.

Keep the replies and ideas comin'!

I like this idea a lot! There have been threads with concept soakers done before, but I don't recall any contest done on it. It taps into both artistic and creative elements while being open to anyone with even the simplest of graphics programs and/or digital cameras/scanners.

Of course, this is your contest so whatever you select as the type is cool by me! I'll be entering the contest assuming I can. :goofy: That prize is slick/schweet!

Well, the idea has grown on me a lot now, so I am going to be going with the create your own soaker idea, unless anyone objects.

I've already created the banner for it, so in a few days I should hopefully have the contest fully drafted up with all the rules to put up here and on Aqua Flash.

@iSoaker: I'd be happy to do whatever I come up with off of this site, and I'll contact you eventually once I think of what exactly to do, to coordinate and such. Before I do anything more than brainstorming, I'll definitely wait until the Aqua_Flash contest is completely completed, so as to not draw any attention away from it. Out of courtesy, and out of... well, courtesy, especially because he was the one that inspired me to consider this in the first place!

@Aqua_Flash: The autographed/logo-ed 2100 looks awesome. I can't wait to see the final contest outline!

Hmm... we have about a month to design and create something for consideration in this contest. Me, I've got a design in my head I've begun to lay out; while I have access to 3D rendering programs, I'm more of a Photoshopper or Illustrator when it comes to designing soakers.

With some luck, perhaps some of the designs people come up with may end up influencing directions on future stock soakers.

I have very little experience in these things, looks like I'll be using the 'Paint' program on my PC... :goofy:

The way I look at it, if I didn't have access and experience at computer graphics programs, I'd be drawing on and describing my concept soaker with text. A picture may be worth 1000 words, but that also means a thousand words can be worth a picture. :goofy:
