SSCentral Temporary Downtime - ^

General news, announcements, and other posts from and/or related to other water warfare-related news and websites.

Postby isoaker on Thu Nov 04, 2004 10:33 am

Just reposting an email I received in case others are unaware:

SSCentral will go down tonight to switch hosts. How long it will take for the DNS servers to refresh is unknown. During this time, I ask you to be patient and wait for our site update and forum upgrade.

I will email you back when the site and forums are up and fully functional. For now the forums are disabled to prevent possible loss of posts.

Thank you for your time.

- the SSCentral Staff

Thank you for posting this. I was too busy to do anything until today.

An update: We haven't yet changed the domain stuff. I was hoping I'd be able to get the forums working on the other host very quickly. That was not the case, and it took me until this morning to get them online, and there still is some CHMODing to get done. Luckily I was able to find the documentation of our old version of IPB.

The hosting switch looks like it'll be seamless. I'll need to contact Neo and Freakymist to do some finalizations, but that all looks likely to happen tonight. The hosting switch will need some getting used to, the new CPanel has completely different skins. :goofy:

A few of you have had the pleasure of previewing what we've done, and I thank you all for your support and suggestions. Some have told me that there appears to be a huge amount of new content and have shown their enthusiasm in our update. The update should be fairly big, we've got a lot of new content and new ideas, but we more than anything else we have plans for the future. Unlike our last update where content was uploaded a lot at a time in long periods, we will be able to have more updates more often with our new system and amount of admins (Spinner recently gained FTP access).

Our update should be up for everyone by the weekend. I will email the forum members when the forums are upgraded to IPB 2.0. Please wait for this update, I think everyone will like it.

Iceman wanted to have a preview, and I bet a few others wanted one too. Avert your eyes if you don't want a spoiler. :D

I think there's a small typo on the "Water Blaster History".

We also saw re-colored CPS 1200's & 1700's with a more CPS 1000 style coloring (purple and silver).

Did you mean the 2700 instead of 1700? As far as I know, there was only color type.

I didn't write that article (check the author, I believe that one's a Sapper article), but I will correct problems in it if any are found. I believe you are right about that being the 2700 actually. I would correct it, but I'm not on my normal machine right now and I do not have immediate access to the FTP.

Interesting that errors were found before the official release date!

The DNS has been updated. The new site should be accessable in one or two days. The forums will become public again shortly after that. I'm making a news post on the temporary website address in preparation to the update. Shouldn't be much more news on this update until it comes online.

The site is available to many people at this time. So check it out if you'd like to see it.

I now realize that IPB is completely a pay product now (if you don't count the 15 day "demo" version they have). Luckily I had a copy of one of the original 2.0 releases saved, we will still be on IPB 2.0. I was planning on buying a lifetime license at a later date anyway.

The forums are having some issues, I believe it's due to the move. I think the upgrade will replace the affected files and fix any problems we'll have.

More updates will be posted.

If there is a problem with the files, and you need to start a new forum, there are a few neat ones that I found.

www.phpbb.com

The Fully Modded is on another site, and it has EVERYTHING. (Lottery, shop, radio player, etc.). It does need the forums found at the lower link though.

Oh, don't worry. The upgrade worked flawlessly. Before the upgrade, viewing a topic caused errors on the new host, but after the upgrade everything is smoother and actually works. We are, however, using a beta version of the forum software. If there're problems I'm sure I'll be able to get enough money to pay for a lifetime license, or possibly hack up the forum with our own fixes. IPB is good forum software, to everything there are advantages and disadvantages, paying means better support and better features for you all, of course at monetary costs. :)
